Band recording

Your band plays together in our live room while drums, bass, guitars and vocals land on separate tracks — with gobos, booths and an engineer who mics the kit before take three falls apart.

Band playing live in recording room with drums and amps

Nanigolixar on Haarlemmerweg in Amsterdam is laid out for ensemble capture: a live room of about 45 m², 2 iso booths and a control room with 32 faders and 24 mic preamp channels. You keep performance energy without unusable bleed.

Book for a demo, EP live takes, overdubs on an existing bed, or a day splitting rhythm section and leads. Sort credits and usage early — see session rights guide. Vocal detail can follow in vocal recording.

Process

  1. 01

    Plan

Send set list, line-up, tempos and references. We draft a mic plot and confirm the date after a 30% deposit.

  2. 02

    Load-in

Entry at Haarlemmerweg 247, drum setup, DI checks, amp placement with gobos. Allow thirty to sixty minutes before the first downbeat.

  3. 03

    Takes

Live passes with or without click, punches where needed. We monitor in room and control room; you choose what feels right.

  4. 04

    Multitrack

Labelled WAV stems or agreed session export. Archive 12 months; mix and master are separate bookings.

Live room and booths

The live room gives distance between kit, amps and vocals. Gobos tame direct sound without killing vibe. Guitar and bass amps sit where they do not roar into the snare mic; singers can use a booth when guide vocals bleed too much.

We have 3 rooms in total — live room, control room and booths — so smaller line-ups can rotate while others dial tones. 8 people on site is a guideline; larger crews need a quick plan via contact.

Typical line-ups

Three- to five-piece bands with drums, bass, guitar and vocal are most common. We also track duos without drums, ensembles with extra percussion, and rhythm-section-only days with keys added later.

Bring-your-own amp is normal; we provide basic DIs and limited studio backline on request. No amp? Mention it when booking so load-in time stays realistic.

Drums and tuning

Drums often set session pace. Arrive on time with workable heads; we help tune and swap snares if needed. Overheads, close mics and a room mic are in the default plot unless you want a drier kit.

Click is optional. Some bands play tighter without it; others want clean edits later. Tell us upfront so monitoring is ready.

Monitoring and talkback

Musicians get individual mixes where hardware allows; otherwise section submixes. The engineer watches meters and talkback from control; in the room you hear enough acoustically to cue each other.

Breaks matter with loud sources — ears fatigue faster than you expect. We schedule quiet time so take twelve still counts.

Prep and access

Send a set list with keys and tempos, who plays solos, and which songs are live versus overdub. On-street parking is limited; bike racks sit at the door. Tram 13 and bus 22 stop at Haarlemmerplein; from there it is about a six-minute walk along Haarlemmerweg. From Amsterdam Centraal station it is roughly a twelve-minute walk toward Westerpark. Limited on-street parking; bicycle racks in front of the entrance..

Tune instruments at home; we change strings in studio if needed. Minimum age 16 applies to members signing alone; younger players with guardians are welcome by arrangement.

Delivery and next steps

After the session we deliver as agreed: all tracks as 24-bit/48 kHz WAV from bar one, or a session export when compatible. Raw takes stay in our archive 12 months.

Mixing happens via our mixing service with clear track names; mastering via mastering. Mix yourself? We label stems so you know which guitar is the double.

FAQ

Can we track everything live in one pass?

Often yes for rhythm and vocal; heavier productions split by section. We discuss the mic plot upfront so expectations match your block.

Can our manager attend?

One or two guests in control is typical. Larger groups need a heads-up.

How many songs in a half day?

Prepared bands often finish three to five songs including setup; dense productions fewer. A set list early helps us estimate.

Do you print a rough mix?

A quick balance for listening at the end is possible; final mix is a separate mixing job.

Who owns the recordings?

Usage and ownership are contractual; read session rights and terms before you sign.
